COLOUR TRENDS FOR 2020

2019 was all about moody shades of deep aqua, vibrant coral and almost black greens with designers focusing on creating intimate adult spaces.  In 2020 we are moving away from that focus with the major paint companies launching all natural lighter palettes accented with jewel like tones.  That’s great news if you are picking colours for an interior in Kirbymoorside or Nunnington as the new vanilla tinted neutrals are fabulous for creating the illusion of extra space – and that’s often a key priority in a typical rural cottage – and the all natural shades being promoted by Dulux are ideal for creating a strong connection with the outside (as well as each other) – another design hack to make your space seem bigger.

Dulux’s panel of experts have now chosen their colour of the year.  The panel, which is headed by Michelle Ogundehin, Editor in Chief of Elle Decoration UK chose Tranquil Dawn, a soft natural green.  Dulux believe that this soft green colour reflects a growing desire to understand what it is to be human at a time when advances in technology are making us feel increasingly disconnected from each other.  As Marianne Shillingford, creative director of Dulux UK explains:  “ A new decade heralds a new dawn and the hazy pale green tones of Tranquil Dawn are calming and comforting just when we need it most in our lives.  When paired with neutral pastels and rich jewels it becomes incredibly powerful at creating spaces that encourage making better human connections.”

Little Greene’s hook up with The National Trust has led to a palette of colours that hark back to an earlier age, and for inspiration, you only have to go as far as Nunnington Hall or Beningbrough Hall to see the colours working in action and get a real feel for how natural colours can connect people and places.

The focus remains firmly on human connections with major paint manufacturer ColourTrend who are using natural shades to create calm cosy spaces for children and parents.  One example of how you can use neutrals to create spaces that work for children and adults using Colourtrend paints is the nursery design featured  as the image for this blog where the designer has painted the room and furniture in the tranquil shades of Cherish is the Word and Indian Hills to build a layered peaceful scheme just right for a new baby.

And watch this space as ColourTrend are bring out a new palette of paint colours later this year and we can hardly wait to see them.
